TMC is spreading lies, NRC won't impact Gorkhas: Amit Shah

He also asked people to give a grand farewell to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, ensuring that the saffron party wins over 200 seats

Accusing the Trinamool Congress(TMC) of spreading misinformation about the National Register of Citizens, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that the NRC, if implemented in the country, will have no effect on Gorkhas.

“NRC is yet to be implemented in the country. Whenever it is done, no Gorkha will be asked to leave the country,” said Shah. He was speaking at a roadshow in Kalimpong district in North Bengal.

Shah also said that as long as the BJP was in power at the Centre there will be no problems for the Gorkhas. “ The TMC is trying to scare the Gorkhas by lying about the possible aftermath of the NRC on them,” said Shah.

Alleging that the people of Kalimpong and Darjeeling have often suffered from atrocities, Shah said that at least 1,200 Gorkhas who lost their lives in the agitation in 1986 were yet to get justice.

“We will form an SIT and put those who are responsible for the deaths in jail,” said Shah. He was referring to the often violent agitations for the separate State of Gorkhaland in 1986 and 2017.

Exuding confidence Shah said at another rally in Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri, Shah said that the BJP has an advantage in 92 of the 135 seats which went to polls in the first four phases of the Assembly elections in West Bengal.

“ You (people) have to ensure that Didi gets a grand farewell. So give BJP more than 200 seats,” said Shah.

He took potshots at the Chief Minister for repeatedly demanding his resignation over the Cooch Behar firing incident saying if she had spoken more about Bengal, then she would have at least some chances of winning the Assembly elections.

Shah said that he always keeps his resignation letter ready in his pocket. He asked the crowd whether they want him to resign over the death of four people in firing by Central forces.

“ If people demand my resignation, then I will resign,” said Shah.
