Tamil Nadu Assembly Election Results 2026 | Vijay declines CM-level convoy before swearing-in: TVK

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has refused to use the official chief ministerial convoy and security arrangements offered to him as per protocol until his swearing-in, the party said on Thursday.

According to PTI, police officials confirmed that convoy vehicles assigned to Vijay were returned not withdrawn. Officials also said preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are underway.

In a statement, the TVK said Vijay had personally asked authorities to take back the convoy vehicles, stating that he would only accept chief minister-level security after formally taking office with a clear public mandate.

The four convoy vehicles allotted to him on May 4, after TVK emerged victorious in 108 Assembly constituencies, were reportedly sent back from his residence at his request.

Despite heightened security deployment around Vijay’s Panaiyur residence and outside Lok Bhavan on May 6, when he met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to stake claim to form the government, the actor-politician chose not to travel in the government-provided vehicle.
