As political negotiations continue in Tamil Nadu following the Assembly election results, the AIADMK has moved its newly elected legislators to neighbouring Puducherry amid the ongoing tussle over government formation.

Confirming the development to PTI, AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan said the party’s MLAs are currently staying in Puducherry. However, he declined to reveal how many members had been moved or the reason behind the decision.

The move comes at a time when actor-politician Vijay-led TVK is engaged in discussions with smaller parties in an attempt to secure enough support to form the government after falling short of the majority mark.

According to reports, communication between senior leaders of the AIADMK and TVK began early Tuesday as both sides explored the possibility of a post-poll understanding. Reports further suggested that the AIADMK leadership was unhappy with the way TVK was handling alliance discussions after the results, even as the party continued talks with smaller outfits.

The political activity has intensified as TVK works to cross the halfway mark in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. The Congress, which secured five seats, has already announced its support to the Vijay-led party.

In the final tally, TVK emerged with 108 seats, while the DMK won 59 and the AIADMK secured 47. Congress bagged 5 seats, PMK 4, IUML 2, CPI 2, CPI(M) 2, and VCK 2. The BJP, DMDK and AMMK won one seat each.
