Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections Results 2026 | 'TN deserves better': Zoho's Sridhar Vembu calls for fresh polls

Tamil Nadu assembly elections concluded on May 4, with Vijay-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) winning by securing 108 seats, but the internal politics continue to boil under public scrutiny.

Founder of Zoho, Sridhar Vembu called for a fresh set of elections in the state, suggesting "Tamil Nadu deserves better."

Taking to his handle on X, he wrote, "The numbers don't seem to add up. Whatever government is cobbled together is likely to be unstable with various pulls and pressures. Tamil Nadu deserves better."

He then took a dig at the recent polls and alleged the misuse of money to 'buy' votes.

"President's rule with fresh elections may be the best course, this time with a very strict "no cash for votes" enforcement. Then we will see who has the real mandate," the post read further.

He stated that the people should decide afresh, and that the DMK-AIADMK parties should fight together in an attempt to stop the TVK from coming back with a "super majority" in the suggestion Vembu proposed.

"I think the @TVKVijayHQ will come back with a super majority and if the DMK-AIADMK want to stop that, let them fight together. The BJP should fight alone, even if it leads to zero seats, time for a fresh start for the BJP in TN," he recommended.

A user on X wrote,"Fresh elections will result in more seats for TVK. Better to leave it here and see how they manage. TVK + ADMK looks like a better option for the state. You get freshness and experience together."

Another comment read, "Your solution to this is to spend another 620 cr (from 2021 numbers, likely closer to 800 cr for this cycle) on another state election and have a completely undemocratic solution until this tentative date arrives? And then if we get a hung assembly again, rinse and repeat?"

Vembu responded to that comment, saying, "We won't get a hung assembly."

"Another election is a huge cost to exchequer and unwarranted," another comment read. The same user added, "TVK can run a minority govt as long as it can manage floor test for however long it can defeat any no confidence motion whose waiting period as per procedure is once in every 6 months."

During the TVK President's meeting with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Wednesday, the latter conveyed his position to show that the party has the support of 117 MLAs, as it currently has the support of 113 MLAs with the Congress that won 5 seats.

As congratulations and wishes of success pour in for the winning party, the TVK faces a challenge of gaining majority support for Vijay to take his position as the state's Chief Minister.
