Single take experiment with Naxal story

The USP of ‘Raktha Gulabi’ is that it was shot in a single take. That is ambitious, and paves way for innovative cinema.

The film takes us through the escape route of Ganesha (Vikramadithya) and his band of ‘Naxals’, who now want to start life afresh in Nepal.

The film’s backdrop is nice but ‘Raktha Gulabi’ is bogged down by the background score, which seems unnatural in certain places. The sounds of the jungle and the scenery would have been enough for a gripping experience. The poor dubbing adds to the woes and certain scenes drag.

The camera work is inconsistent, oscillating between fantastic and amateurish. The actors don’t stand out, Vikramadithya being the only exception. He keeps the boat afloat with his controlled performances. Some scenes are gut-wrenching.

Towards the end, the film solves the conundrums it faces. The single-take method calls for major improvisation. Some scenes, which run for minutes, look natural.

‘Raktha Gulabi’ has made a mark and shown how to be a risk-taker.
