Malayalam actor Mohanlal will soon be seen in the eagerly-awaited movie Aaraattu, which has created a fair deal of buzz among fans as it features 'Lalettan' in a new avatar. According to multiple reports, the film will hit the screens on August 12. If this is indeed the case, the biggie will benefit from the Independence Day weekend as well as the Onam festivities.

Aaraattu is touted to be an action-comedy and has been directed by B Unnikrishnan. It features Shraddha Srinath as the leading lady and marks her return to Mollywood after a hiatus. The actor had made her big-screen debut with the Malayalam movie Kohinoor, which hit the screens in 2015. It starred Asif Ali and Indrajith as the parallel leads.

Mohanlal, meanwhile, is going through a busy phase on the work front. The powerhouse performer was last seen in Drishyam 2, which premiered digitally on a streaming platform as opposed to in theatres. The thriller was a sequel to the 2013 cult classic Drishyam and revolved around the protagonist's attempts at dealing with a ghost from the past. It received rave reviews but a section of the audience felt that its first half could have been better.

Mohanlal is awaiting the release of the period-drama Marakkar, which revolves around the journey of a naval admiral. The Priyadarshan-helmed biggie features a star-studded cast that includes Arjun Sarja, 'Lady Superstar' Manju Warrier, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty and Keerthy Suresh. It is slated to release in theatres on May 13.

He will be reuniting with Drishyam 2 helmer Jeethu Joseph for the movie Ram. The 'Complete Actor' is also set to turn director with Barroz. There have been talks of him collaborating with Telugu actor Jr NTR for a movie to be helmed by 'Guruji' Trivikram Srinivas. If this is indeed the case, the film will mark his second collaboration with the 'Young Tiger'. The two had previously teamed up for Janatha Garage.
