KD Song Row: Rakshita cites ‘Choli Ke Peeche’ and ‘Peelings’ to defend Prem’s 'Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke'

Since its release a few days ago, the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from the film Dhurva Sarja’s KD: The Devil has been hitting headlines for all the wrong reasons. The song featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt is facing a heavy backlash from the audience. Music lovers are heavily criticising its suggestive lyrics that many find lewd and distasteful.

While netizens are taking to various social platforms to voice their disgust, accusing the makers of vulgarity. The makers have allegedly removed the song, and it has disappeared from their official YouTube channel.

Many viewers expressed discomfort with the song’s bold lyrics and the double meanings and highly suggestive choreography. What started as a few negative comments is quietly transforming into an organised protest against Raqueeb and KD: The Devil makers, over the song’s lyrical content and provocative choreography.

However, amid all this noise, filmmaker Prem has found support in his wife and former actress Rakshita. She took to her Instagram story and reacted to this controversy. Taking to Instagram Stories, Rakshita exposed the hypocrisy in the showbiz world through a series of posts.

She said, “I know what's happening. My stand on whether I am for it or against it doesn't matter, when songs like Peelings, Dreamum Wakeupum, like Choli ke Peeche or 100s like these came out it seemed fine (sic),” adding, “When an entire film came out talking about how the actors just spoke about have sexual intercourse throughout the film it seemed fine. but one song creates massive news. still not justifying, just asking so I can understand this (sic).”

She further questioned why constant sexual references in films are treated as standard fare while a particular song becomes "breaking news". She asked it not as a justification but as a genuine concern why do the public and the industry draw such arbitrary lines?

“Prem is a Kannadiga as much all of you are,” she said, adding that everyone has the right to question him, to tell him what is right and what is not. She defended that calling out the song a publicity stunt, ignores director Prem's deep understanding of cinema and his audience.

Beyond the cinema, she also addressed the business struggle for a Kannada film. The difficulty of placing Kannada films on OTT is an uphill battle. "He finds it extremely difficult to reach any heights or even close to other cinema markets. Even our people, bringing them to theatres is a very tough job. This is not just our story, this is every film in sandalwood (sic).”

At last, she stood by the team's hard work, concluding that the current noise is just a "passing phase of bad timing and will dissolve in a matter of days".

Meanwhile, Karnataka State Women’s Commission’s Chairperson Dr Nagalakshmi Chaudhary has raised strong objections to the lyrics, calling them obscene and disrespectful towards women. She has formally written to the Regional Censor Board as well as the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, asking for immediate action and a detailed report.

Amid the growing uproar, lyricist Raqueeb Alam has distanced himself from the controversy, clarifying his role as just a ‘translator rather than an author’. He said that he simply translated the original Kannada lyrics into Hindi and refused to take any accountability for the "vulgarity" being called out by the audience.
