'Michael is magic': Anupam Kher praises Michael Jackson biopic, calls Jaafar Jackson 'outstanding'

Taking to X, Anupam Kher has shared a glowing review of the biopic.

Michael Jackson's biopic has stirred up a dialogue in the world of cinema. While some are appreciating it for its electrifying recreation the global icon's performances, others call it bland and with lack of energy.

Nevertheless, the biopic has seen a brilliant $200M debut globally.

And while the numbers do speak about the film's popularity, the film is getting support from the B-town celebrities.

After film maker Farah Khan, Bollywood veteran Anupam Kher has now praised the film.

Taking to X, alongside a video of him sharing his views about the film, Kher wrote in the caption, "MICHAEL IS MAGIC: Last night I watched the biopic #Michael on the one and only Michael Jackson. Phenomenal. Inspiring. Deeply moving."

Confessing that he doesn't understand English music much, Kher added, "I must confess, I don’t understand English music as much as I understand emotions. But with Michael Jackson, language was never a barrier. Just like Charlie Chaplin, he spoke directly to the heart. And the heart understands everything."

Further adding how the Michael's journey that is chronicled in the film inspired him, he wrote, "What stayed with me was not just the music or the performances… but the journey. A life. And life is never perfect. It has its ups and downs, its struggles and its shadows. But if a life can inspire millions across generations, across countries, across languages… then it is nothing short of magical."

And while the film has been receiving some negative reviews, Kher defended the film and said that critics often judge moment and not journeys.

"Sometimes I feel critics forget that. They judge moments, not journeys. And journeys are messy, beautiful, unpredictable… just like life itself. I came out of the film feeling grateful. Grateful that such artists exist. Grateful that we get to witness their brilliance. There will never be another Michael Jackson. And maybe that’s the point," he wrote.

Kher also praised Jaafar Jackson, who plays Michael in the biopic and called him outstanding.

"And #JaafarJackson as Michael is unbelievably AMAZING and OUTSTANDING! Jai Ho!," he concluded.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the biopic stars Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson, Kat Graham as Diana Ross, Miles Teller as John Branca, Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson and others.

In India, the movie, which chronicles the life of the King of Pop, was released on April 24, 2026, in theatres.
