Where is Lord Rama? Asks fans as Ranbir Kapoor skips Ramayana event in Mumbai

While Namit Malhotra is 'moving mountains' to make his dream project Ramayana a global spectacle, all eyes are currently on the missing lead actor. After hosting a much-awaited LA screening revealing Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, another pan-India event was held today in India.

However, what surprised many was Ranbir Kapoor’s absence. Ranbir, who had been actively promoting the film with Nitesh Tiwari and Malhotra until the previous evening, skipped the asset launch, leaving fans and insiders questioning what went wrong behind the scenes.

The grand Mumbai unveiling of Ranbir Kapoor’s look as Lord Rama took an unexpected turn when only director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra appeared on stage. Fans and media were left puzzled by Ranbir Kapoor’s absence. His non-appearance from his own character reveal event didn’t go down well with many.

The launch event was a spectacular showcase of the makers' massive ambition for this two-part epic. During a media interaction, producer Namit Malhotra emphasized the project's unprecedented scale, revealing that a global team of over 10,000 professionals is currently working around the clock to bring Ramayana to life.

An emotional Nitesh Tiwari addressed the audience, revealing the deep personal stakes involved in the project. 'I have dedicated seven years of my life to Ramayana. I’ve been waiting for this exact moment for seven years, just to finally see your reactions to our vision,” the filmmaker said.

About Ramayana

Inspired by the ancient epic Ramayana, the film revolves around the story of Rama and his journey as a prince of Ayodhya, his exile and his battle with Ravana. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana.

The music is composed by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. The first part of Ramayana is set to release in theatres during Diwali 2026, while the second part is expected to release in Diwali 2027.
