Govt striving to rebuild lives of flood victims: Mahesh

The state government has taken a pledge to support the victims of natural calamity in the district, said District In-charge Minister Sa Ra Mahesh.

Speaking after hoisting the flag during Republic Day celebrations at General Thimayya Stadium, on Saturday, he said that houses were being constructed at Karnangeri, Made, Biligere, Galibeedu and Jambooru for the victims.

“The cost of each house is Rs 9.85 lakh. A full-fledged layout will be established. Till the work on houses is completed, the victims will get
Rs 10,000 as rent every month from the government,” he said.

The natural calamity has damaged roads, bridges, school and anganwadi buildings. The state government has immediately responded to the residents. A sum of Rs 99.22 crore was released to the Public Works Department and all the works are in progress. The details of loss of crops have been uploaded in Parihara software and compensation will be credited directly to the bank accounts of the farmers, the minister said.

“We are all striving to rebuild the lives of the flood victims,” he added.

The students from St Michael School, Ashrama School of Virajpet, Government Higher Primary School, St Joseph’s School and General Thimayya School presented a variety of cultural programmes on the occasion.

Civil police, DAR platoons, Home Guards, members of Koodige Sainik School, Field Marshal Cariappa College and Government PU College presented an attractive march past. Achievers were felicitated on the occasion.

Mahesh said that a memorandum seeking Bharat Ratna for Siddaganga seer late Shivakumara Swami, with signatures of all the elected representatives irrespective of party, was sent to the Union government. However, the Centre had not considered the name of the seer for the award this year. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will once again meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will discuss the issue.

He said that Field Marshal K M Cariappa Jayanthi will be observed by the district administration and the state government has released Rs 10 lakh for the purpose.
