‘Govt won’t interfere in Shiroor Mutt case’

Dr G Parameshwara

Home and Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said that the state government will not interfere in the police’s decision in the Shiroor Mutt case.

Addressing reporters here on Friday, the minister said, “Investigation into the suspicious death of the Shiroor Mutt seer Lakshmivara Theertha Swami is still going on. The police will decide on whether the Aradhane rituals and the final rituals will be conducted in the mutt. The state government will not interfere in the decisions taken by the police.”

When asked about the investigation on senior journalist Gauri Lankesh’s murder case, he said that the investigation has reached its final stage and the police will share details after the investigation is completed.

No reduction in grants

He said that there is no reduction in the release of grants to various departments due to the loan waiver announced by the government. All the welfare schemes of the previous government will be continued. There is no change in the allocation of grants for Bidaayi, Anna Bhagya and other welfare schemes, Parameshwara clarified.

To check farmers’ suicide cases, the government has waived the farmer loans. “If the Modi government supported the state government, our burden would have been reduced. The loan waiver will be implemented in a phased manner,” Parameshwara
said.

Police transfers

The minister said that there was a delay in transfer of police inspectors due to the announcement of urban local body polls. The list of transfers has been prepared based on the guidelines of State Election Commission. The transfer list will be announced within a day or two, he added.

“There is a proposal before the department to allow pant and shirt for lady constables as wearing saree is inconvenient. The final decision on the issue will be taken shortly,” he
said.

The government will track down all foreign nationals residing illegally in Karnataka, he added.
