Gujjars file petition against banks

Last Updated 18 November 2012, 19:04 IST

Citing non-representation, Gujjars have filed a petition to the RBI and NCST against two state-run banks for not implementing reservation in recruitments for Scheduled Tribes of the state.

“We have filed petition against two Jammu and Kashmir banks before National Commission for Schedule Tribes and Reserve Bank of India, accusing both for not implementing reservation in recruitments and promotions for STs of the state at various levels,” said secretary for tribal research and cultural foundation (TRCF), Javaid Rahi.

The petition has been filed by TRCF against Jammu and Kashmir Bank and Grameen Bank, citing that the two banks have failed to implement reservation laws for STs in recruitments thereby violating constitutional obligations and denying safeguards available to the tribal communities.

As per the petition, JKB for the last 20 years and Grameen Bank since its inception had filled up hundreds of posts at various levels without providing any reservation to reserved categories especially to the STs.
