The society is slowly losing its humanity, said former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde.

He was speaking after accepting ‘Outstanding Manager Award,’ instituted by Mangaluru Management Association, here recently.

“Instead of helping each other, we have developed business mindset. Such mindset needs to be changed. Accordingly, I have been visiting colleges to deliver lecture on humanitarian values. In this materialistic world, humanism is fast eroding,” Hegde said.

The former lokayuka said, “I have visited 1,022 schools and colleges and tried to change the mindset of the young. The society is mired in corruption. It has become common to get convicted on the charges of corruption. All of us should oppose bribe and corruption,” he said.

Stating that the quantum of punishment for corrupt is less, Hegde said, “In such a scenario what is the message we are sending to the younger generation. If stringent punishment is imposed for corrupt, then people will be scared of the punishment.”

Lokayukta Justice P Vishwanath Shetty stressed the need for a people’s movement against corruption and to bring in changes in the society.

“The country needs skilled and committed people. The youth should raise their voice against corruption,” he said.
