India will suffer if it attacks Pakistan: Khawaja

Last Updated 30 August 2015, 11:07 IST

India will suffer "heavy losses" if it goes to war against Pakistan, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif warned on Sunday.

"If India tried to impose war on Pakistan, heavy losses will be inflicted on India which it will remember for decades," state-run Radio Pakistan quoted the minister as saying.

Asif was talking to the media during a visit to Kundunpur village on the Jammu and Kashmir border.

He said Kundunpur was badly affected by "unprovoked" firing and shelling by Indian border forces.

Asif said India was diverting attention from its internal failures by creating tension on the border, Radio Pakistan reported.

He also accused India of interfering in Pakistani affairs, saying Islamabad had proof to back it.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have been on the rise on their Jammu and Kashmir border, where both sides accuse the other of unleasing unprovoked firing and shelling.
