10 Indian vessels safely crossed Strait of Hormuz, MEA says in touch with Iran for 'safe exit of our ships'

The Ministry of External Affairs said Monday India is in touch with Iran and others so that 'we can have a safe exit of our ships through the Strait of Hormuz'.

This comes after two Indian vessels had to reverse their course in the Strait of Hormuz following an incident of firing by Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

"We called in the Iranian ambassador, had a meeting with the foreign secretary. The Ambassador said that this would be conveyed to the authorities back home," MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told media here during an inter-ministerial briefing.

An official has said that 10 Indian vessels have successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz so far, amid heightened tensions in the region.

In related development, the ceasefire in the Iran war hangs in balance even as Pakistan gears up to host possible new talks between Tehran and Washington.
