<p>Close on the heels of a triple murder and rape at Bhandara, another case of molestation and attempt to sexually abuse a 12-year-old Adivasi girl in a government-run residential school in the nearby Yavatmal district has come to light.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Police, fearing rising anger among Adivasis, on Sunday night registered a first information report (FIR) and detained Trimbak Meshram, cook of the school, falling under the Pandharkoda integrated tribal development programme, in the Kelapur taluka of Yavatmal district. Meshram, at present in police custody, will be produced before the local magistrate court on Wednesday.<br /><br />As per the FIR (43/13, ) registered at Pandharkoda Police Station, the girl belonging to a “primitive tribe,” was heard sobbing and screaming for three nights last week.<br /><br />On Friday-Saturday night, other school children, hearing her sobs again, informed her mother, to whom the ‘victim’' revealed that the school cook, in an inebriated condition, had allegedly barged into her room and after disrobing her, forced himself upon her in an attempt to sodomise her. <br /><br />The police later found the girl’s undergarments in torn condition outside in the compound. The girl was medically examined on Monday at Civil Hospital, but the report has not been released . However, local adivasi organisations have taken up the issue demanding medical examination of all girl inmates of the school. <br /><br />Talking to Deccan Herald from Pandharkoda, local municipal councillor and leader of Adivasi Vidyarthi Sanghatana, Ankit Naitam said: “ We fear that other girls may have also faced molestation and sexual abuse. Ironically, the project officer, despite being told, has not bothered to even look into the goings-on in the school.” Naitam said.</p>
