Rajamahendravaram milk adulteration: Death toll rises to 6, seven others in critical condition

Hyderabad: The death toll in the Rajamahendravaram milk adulteration incident has risen to six, with two more victims a six-year-old boy and a 58-year-old woman succumbing to renal failure. Seven others remain in critical condition.

Medical and Health officials said that victims first noticed a bad taste in the milk, followed by cessation of urine. Complaints from one family at a private hospital alerted the DMHO, where doctors diagnosed anuria.

Advisories have been issued to 106 families, with blood samples collected from 315 people. Currently, 15 are hospitalized, including eight in critical condition and three children. Ten food samples are under testing at government, forensic, and private labs, with results due in 48-72 hours. Post-mortem samples from the deceased are also being analyzed.

Special medicines being airlifted from Mumbai and Chennai are expected in Rajamahendravaram by Wednesday night that are expected to aid recovery. Fourteen permanent Rapid Response Teams are now conducting comprehensive surveillance in the affected area.

Srikakulam diarrhea outbreak claims one life

At least one person, M Suresh from Dammalaveedhi in Srikakulam town, has died from the diarrhea outbreak while about 70 others have been hospitalized in recent days.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the situation twice on Wednesday, speaking separately with district officials and senior Medical and Health Department leaders. He inquired about field-level care and health status of patients across hospitals.

Officials told the Chief Minister the outbreak has stemmed from road repair works disrupting water supply. Pipeline water has been halted, with safe alternatives provided. A total of 65 have been admitted; eight discharged, leaving 55 under treatment, 30 at KIMS, others at GGH, JEMS, UPHC, Medicover, and private facilities.

Two patients at JEMS are critical on ventilators while the rest are stable. Field surveys identified 79 more with mild symptoms, who are receiving home-based medicines and ORS without needing hospital admission.
