Asaduddin Owaisi lodges complaint against CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for 'Shooting' Muslims video

Hyderabad: AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday filed an official complaint with the Hyderabad police against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The complaint is related to a video posted on social media by the Assam BJP, which has since been deleted. Owaisi has alleged that the video showed the Chief Minister ‘shooting’ Muslims and described it as violent and provocative.

“Have lodged an official complaint with Hyderabad police demanding criminal action against Himanta Sarma for his now deleted violent video showing him shooting Muslims. Unfortunately, genocidal hate speech has become a norm,” said Owaisi.

In the complaint Owaisi said that Himanta Biswa Sarma, has, for the last several years, been continuously making statements against the Muslim community through social media, print media, public speeches and other platforms. Many such speeches are still available in the public domain.

He added that in recent months, the said Chief Minister has deliberately intensified his hate speeches, with a clear and conscious intention to outrage the religious feelings of Muslims and to promote enmity and hatred between Hindus and Muslims, fully knowing that such imputations are prejudicial to national integration and destructive of communal harmony.

Owaisi reminded that the Supreme Court of India, in Shaheen Abdulla v. Union of India & Ors., has categorically held that it is the constitutional duty of the State and law-enforcement authorities to protect fundamental rights, preserve constitutional values, and safeguard the secular and democratic character of the nation, particularly the rule of law. The Court further directed that the police must take suo motu action in cases of hate speech even in the absence of a formal complaint, and that any inaction or hesitation would amount to a serious dereliction of duty.

“I submit that a recent video posted by the official X' account of the Assam Bharatiya Janata Party on 07.02.2026, which was taken down a day later but is still available on social media', depicts Himanta Biswa Sarma portrayed as armed with a firearm and targeting it towards persons very obviously depicted as Muslims, and shooting them. The said post and video with the imagery used in it and statements like "Point blank shot" and "No Mercy", is a deliberate and malicious act intended to outrage the religious feelings of Muslims, promote hatred and ill-will between religious communities and incite communal violence," Owaisi in the complaint to the Hyderabad police commissioner.

On RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat demanding Bharat Ratna for Veer Savarkar, Owaisi in Mahabubnagar on Monday during the ongoing campaign for urban local body elections, said "BJP is planning to confer the Bharat Ratna to a man who wrote six mercy petitions to the Britishers. There will be a time when the BJP even considers honouring Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin, Nathuram Godse, with the Bharat Ratna."
