<p>The Barak valley of Assam has been witnessing political debate for the past two days after the Silchar Municipal Board in Cachar district, which the BJP was recently elected to, removed a portrait of Mother Teresa from its chairman’s office.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The action has evoked wide spread protest in Assam, with the ruling Congress hitting out at the BJP.<br /><br />Mother Teresa’s portrait was hung alongside those of Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in the chairman’s office. “In our consideration, the portrait of Mother Teresa is not fit to find a place with that of Tagore, Islam and Bose. There is no need to play politics with this decision,” Board’s Chairman Niharendra Narayan Thakur said.<br /></p>
