Guwahati: In another attack on Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday claimed that the former had visited Pakistan at the invitation of Inter Service Intelligence (ISI).

"Today, I am saying very clearly that Gaurav Gogoi had gone to Pakistan at the invitation of the ISI. We have documents of that with us. It was not a leisure visit. Definitely he had gone there to get training. Why else will ISI invite him? He went there after getting an invitation from the Pakistan Interior Ministry. Invitation by the foreign ministry or a university is different. But he had gone after getting the invitation from the Pakistan government. This is a very serious matter and big action will follow," Sarma told reporters in Guwahati.

Sarma said he was making the claim with full responsibility and he would quit as CM if the claims turned out to be false. "If I am invited by the interior ministry and I go there without informing the government of India, then the crime committed by Jyoti Malhotra is nothing. Then what is espionage?" Sarma asked. Sarma said the proof of his claims about Gaurav's alleged Pakistan links would be made public in September.
.
Reacting to the fresh attacks, Gaurav, an MP from Assam's Jorhat Lok Sabha seat, posted on X, "99 per cent of what the Chief Minister has been saying is nonsense. He should put out the facts in public domain and stop hiding behind an imaginary September deadline. I doubt if even in September, the Chief Minister can put out any concrete facts. I remember, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Assam, he created a fuss about a supposed "body double" of Rahul Gandhi."
.
"The script that the Chief Minister is following is worse than a B grade film.."

Since February, Sarma has been making one after another claim about Gogoi and his British wife's links with Pakistan. Sarma had earlier said Gogoi had taken 15 youths to Pakistan for indoctrination.

Sarma's claim created a stir in Assam politics ahead of panchayat elections held on May 2 and 7 and is likely to be an issue for the ruling BJP in the run up to the polls elections slated early next year.
