IAF's Su-30 fighter jet goes missing in Assam; likely crashed in Karbi Anglong

Guwahati: A Su-30 fighter aircraft of Indian Air Force (IAF) went missing soon after it took off from Jorhat airbase in eastern Assam on Thursday evening, which reportedly crashed in neighbouring hilly Karbi Anglong district.

Sources in IAF headquarters in New Delhi said the aircraft lost contact soon after take off from Jorhat at 7.42pm. Search and rescue mission has been initiated, they said adding that further details are being ascertained.

Sources in Karbi Anglong district said local residents observed a massive fire following a huge sound on an interior hills area near Chokihola under Bokajan sub-division.

The district administration, however, could not confirm the reports about crash of the aircraft. "We have rushed a team to the site and are awaiting response," Karbi Anglong District Commissioner, Aranyak Saikia, told DH over phone at around 9.45pm.
