Jilted lover shoots bride during her wedding in Bihar, Tejashwi slams law & order situation

Patna: Ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Bihar visit on Wednesday, a tragic incident has rocked the state where a bride was shot on her wedding stage on late Tuesday night in Buxar district.

The assailant, identified as Deenbandhu, fired a gunshot at Aarti, the bride, at 11 pm on February 24 when the family members of the bride were performing wedding rituals and applying ‘tilak’ on the forehead of the groom.

Aarti sustained gunshot injuries in her abdomen and was rushed to the Buxar Sadar Hospital from where the doctors, after giving her first aid, referred her to Varanasi Trauma Centre in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi.

Not out of the woods, the bride is reportedly battling for life, while the baraat, which had come to Bihar’s Buxar district from Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, has returned.

“Raids are on to nab the jilted lover Deenbandhu, who is on the run after the shooting incident. His parents have been detained for questioning,” said the Additional Station House Officer (ASHO) Chandan Kumar.

‘Criminals calling the shots'

Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has put the Nitish Kumar government in the dock questioning the sharp increase in criminal activities across the state.

“Not a single day passes when there is no shooting incident in Bihar. We have a CM (from the JD-U) and two Deputy CMs (from the BJP) who often boast of a double-engine government. But there is no law and order worth its name in this double engine government. It’s the criminals who are calling the shots,” said Tejashwi.

“Even the visit by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Seemanchal areas in Bihar, bordering West Bengal, is more aimed at Bengal election than reviewing law and order and infiltration in Bihar,” said Tejashwi, launching a broadside against Shah, who is on a three-day visit to Bihar from February 25 to 27.
