Right wing group gives 'Hanuman Chalisa' to couples celebrating Valentine’s Day in Bihar

Patna: At a time when young couples, bitten by the love bug, are busy celebrating Valentine’s Day, a right wing organisation – Hindu Shiv Bhawani Sena – took to streets and parks in Bihar, preventing couples from spending quality time.

Invading their privacy, the self-styled 'custodian of Hindu religion' handed over a copy of ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ to such young couples, and asked them to offer prayers to Lord Hanuman and observe silence for those martyred in Pulwama on February 14, 2019.

“There is nothing called ‘Valentine’s Day’ in our Hindu culture. In the name of Valentine’s Day celebration, young couples spread vulgarity and nudity through their ‘public nuisance’ in public parks. Instead, these people should be taught about ‘Shaheed Diwas’ and told how our defence and paramilitary personnel were martyred on this day in Pulwama seven years ago,” said Luv Kumar Singh Rudra, president of the lesser-known organisation Hindu Shiv Bhawani Sena.

The right wing activists went to the Buddha Smriti Park in central Patna and asked the couples roaming inside the park to avoid celebrating Valentine’s Day as it is “against our culture and promotes indecency.”

Handing over a copy of ‘Hanuman Chalisa’, the members of Hindu Shiv Bhawani Sena did not assault or roughed up any of the couples, unlike past years. But they made a strong request to all those celebrating Valentine’s Day to observe silence for those martyred in Pulwama on this day.

“Such Valentine's Day celebration also gives rise to cases of ‘Love jihad’, which we protest strongly,” said Singh, while claiming that his move was to protect Hindu culture and remained non-violent.

The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar regime, where JD (U) and BJP are allies, had deployed ample police force from Eco Park to Marine Drive (along the Ganga) to prevent any untoward incident on the occasion of Valentine’s Day.
