The rebel BJP MLA Gyan Dev Ahuja who had filed nomination as an independent candidate has now been appointed as BJP's state vice president. He filed as an independent candidate after being dropped by the party in the list of candidates for upcoming Rajasthan elections.

Motormouth MLA Gyandev Ahuja agreed to withdraw his nomination a day after he met BJP national president Amit Shah, CM Vasundhara Raje and Mayor Ashok Lahoty at Jaipur airport on Wednesday. Gyandev Ahuja filed his nomination from Sanganer seat as an independent candidate after being denied the ticket. The party fielded present Mayor Ashok Lahoty from the Sanganer assembly against Congress candidate Pushpendra Bhardwaj.

Gyandev Ahuja, who represented Ramgarh constituency in Alwar region in 2016 was embroiled in a controversy by claiming that hundreds of abortion injections, thousands of condoms, liquor bottles, bones and packets of namkeens inside the JNU campus daily. Later he gave another controversial statement saying that anyone who indulges in smuggling or slaughter of cows will be killed. In August this year, Ahuja had even said Jawaharlal Nehru was not a ‘Pandit’ because he ate “beef and pork”. Moreover, during the Akbar Khan lynching case, he was caught saying on record that "those involved in the lynching are innocent".

The BJP denied him the ticket and fielded Ashok Lahoty. Disappointed by the decision, Gyandev Ahuja left the BJP and decided to fight the election as an independent candidate from Sanganer assembly of Jaipur on Sunday.
