BJP observes 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day'

New Delhi: The BJP observed remembrance of the Partition across the country on August 14, Thursday.

In memoriam, the BJP observed the day as the Vibhajan Vibhishika Divas or Partition Horrors Remembrance Day as a tribute to those who lost their lives due to the partition.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the day must be remembered as an honour to this “tragic chapter” in our lives.

“India observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, remembering the upheaval and pain endured by countless people during that tragic chapter of our history. It is also a day to honour their grit...their ability to face unimaginable loss and still find the strength to start afresh,” PM Modi said.

“Many of those affected went on to rebuild their lives and achieve remarkable milestones. This day is also a reminder of our enduring responsibility to strengthen the bonds of harmony that hold our country together,” he added.

PM Modi had, in 2021, declared that August 14 will be observed as Vibhajan Vibhishika Divas.

BJP president J P Nadda inaugurated an exhibition in Connaught Place to mark the occasion, and carried out a silent rally. “The tragedy of Partition is a deep pain and lesson in the history of the country. It is not only to be remembered, but the coming generations have to be made aware of its causes, consequences and the importance of unity of the country,” Nadda said.

Delhi L-G VK Saxena, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, General Secretary Tarun Chugh, Lok Sabha MP Bansuri Swaraj and Media Co-incharge Sanjay Mayukh were present.
