<p>The CBI on Wednesday registered a case against senior officials of the Medical Council of India (MCI) and principal of a private medical college in Kerala in connection with granting postgraduate seats on submission of false information.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Cases were registered under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act after simultaneous searches at the MCI office here and at the residence and official premises of MCI Additional Secretary Prasanna Raj, Deputy Secretary Anshu Sethi Bajaj, ex-consultant Madhu Handa and Principal of Thiruvananthapuram-based Somervell Medical College Samson Nessaih.<br /><br />It is alleged that the pending applications seeking postgraduate seats was dealt and processed in a unauthorised manner by the MCI and Letter of Permission (LoP) was issued after the last date, March 31, 2012. The sanction was given despite the deficiencies pointed out by assessors in their inspection report in 2011. <br /><br />“Machines which were to be installed before sending the compliance to MCI were actually installed after that date. The bank guarantee which was mentioned to have been submitted by the medical college to MCI along with the compliance letter was not actually submitted on time,” the CBI said.</p>
