<p>New Delhi: Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna on Friday lauded retiring judge Justice Hrishikesh Roy for his "legal acumen, knowledge, reasonableness and described him as "a complete man".</p>.<p>While holding a ceremonial bench on the judge's last working day, the CJI said Justice Roy's balanced approach and sense of humour made things easy in court.</p>.<p>"He was a complete man. His sense of humour made things easy. His balanced approach in court or otherwise was extraordinary. That apart, his patience, calmness and demeanour had impact on all of us," the CJI shared.</p>.<p>He went on, "While talking to him, you are talking to a person who has knowledge and wisdom. He is an all rounder and it is very difficult to find a person like him. He is a remarkable person and we are bound to miss him." </p>.<p>Attorney general R Venkataramani said Justice Roy believed a "smile is a curve which can set many things straight".</p>.Supreme Court to hold national event on Jan 1 every year to discuss issues in district judiciary.<p>"You carried a rare charm which made the bar productive," said Venkataramani.</p>.<p>Solicitor general Tushar Mehta echoed a similar sentiment saying Justice Roy's humour eased the tension in court.</p>.<p><a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/supreme-court">Supreme Court</a> Bar Association president and senior advocate Kapil Sibal praised Justice Roy's humane approach to law and revealed he took initiatives for providing relief during Assam floods.</p>.<p>"You have an old-school charm which will be missed in the court for years to come and your boldness is something very few judges have," said Sibal.</p>.<p>Reminiscing his journey, Justice Roy said, "I hope in my 23 years of career I did justice. Finally as I exit from court 1, I hope my parents feel that I fulfilled their expectations." Additional solicitor general Aishwarya Bhati said Justice Roy's courtroom had a "Buddha-like" nature with calmness and composure.</p>.<p>Justice Roy was part of several Constitution benches in significant cases including verdicts over Euthanasia guidelines, committee for the appointment of election commissioners and practice of Jallikattu.</p>.<p>He was born on February 1, 1960 and obtained his LLB degree from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University in 1982.</p>.<p>On September 23, 2019, Justice Roy took oath as a judge in the Supreme Court before which he had served as the chief justice of Kerala High Court being appointed on August 8, 2018.</p>.<p>Justice Roy was appointed an additional judge of Gauhati High Court on October 12, 2006 and became a permanent judge on July 15, 2008.</p>.<p>In his lawyering career, he was designated a senior on December 21, 2004 by the Gauhati High Court.</p>.<p>The Arunachal Pradesh Legal Services authority led by Justice Roy, produced Apne Ajnabi, a short film on the theme of racial prejudice and the film was about how legal aid could extended to the needy, under the Legal Services Authority Act, 1987.</p>.<p>As the executive head of the Assam State Legal Services Authority, he implemented an outreach program to facilitate access to justice, for the state's marginalised sections.</p>.<p>He also spearheaded training programmes for judicial officers under the Gauhati High Court and was nominated as a member of the National Judicial Academic Council, headed by then chief justice of India.</p>.<p>Under his leadership, newsletter ATMAN was published regularly for the Gauhati High Court for 10 years.</p>
