Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 | CPI(M)'s draft resolution focusses on 'united fight' against BJP while improving 'individual strength'

New Delhi: The CPI(M) will continue to keep its focus on a united fight to “isolate and defeat” the BJP but with an emphasis on improving its individual strength while cooperating with the Congress and I.N.D.I.A bloc to maximise the pooling of anti-Hindutva votes.

In its draft political resolution released on Monday, the party acknowledged that the Congress has a role to play in the struggle against the BJP and in the broader unity to be forged of the secular forces. CPI(M)’s attitude to the “main secular opposition party” is determined by this need, it said.

However, it continues to maintain that it cannot have a political alliance with the Congress.

With no change in the party’s political line of adopting “appropriate electoral tactics” to maximise the pooling of anti-Hindutva votes, it said the CPI(M) will cooperate with the I.N.D.I.A bloc in Parliament and on “agreed issues” outside Parliament.

In West Bengal, the draft said, it will have to focus “more on the political and ideological fight against the BJP while opposing both Trinamool Congress and BJP” while pointing out that Trinamool seeks to maintain a binary of Trinamool versus BJP to marginalise the CPI(M) and the Left.

“The nearly 11 years of the Modi government’s rule have resulted in the consolidation of the right wing, communal, authoritarian forces with neo-fascist characteristics. The Modi government represents the alliance of Hindutva forces and the big bourgeoisie. Hence, the prime task is to fight and defeat the BJP-RSS and the Hindutva-corporate nexus underpinning it,” it said.

Releasing the draft for the Party Congress in Madurai in April, CPI(M) Polit Bureau coordinator Prakash Karat said though there is no change in the political line the emphasis is different as the party would look at improving its strength.

On I.N.D.I.A, he said the impetus for the forming the bloc was to take on BJP unitedly in Parliament elections.

Asked whether the bloc has been effective after the elections, he said there has “not been any real discussion” after the Lok Sabha results. “At the moment, it is fluid. There is no discussion among constituents. The point is the fight against BJP is not limited to the I.N.D.I.A bloc.”

On the Congress, the draft said, “it talks against crony capitalism, but adheres to the very same neo-liberal policies which spawn such cronies. While its national leadership is taking a more forthright position against the Hindutva agenda, there are still vacillations and a tendency to compromise when faced with the aggressive offensive of the BJP and its Hindutva allies.”
