<p> If you wanted to be a graduate with subjects of your choice from different disciplines instead of usual under-graduate courses offered in colleges, Delhi University should be your destination this academic year.<br /><br /></p>.<p>According to a top official of the Human Resource Development Ministry, the varsity is set to offer such trans-disciplinary undergraduate course of a four year duration to a “limited number of candidates” from the coming academic year, 2012-13.<br /><br />“The programme will allow students design his or her undergraduate course as per their choice of learning. For example, if a student wants to study mass communication and history with Physics, it will be possible for him under the programme to be launched from this academic year,” the official said.<br /><br />Although, such students will be admitted to one of the colleges functioning under the Delhi University, they will be allowed to visit different colleges of the varsity to attend classes in order to have an opportunity to acquire quality education in the subjects of their choice.<br /><br />“For example, if the college where the student has been admitted cannot offer quality education on physics opted by him, he will be allowed to attend classes at some other college where it is possible. It will be up to students, selected for the course, to decide which college they want to go to attend classes of a particular subject they have opted to get degree in,” the official said.<br /><br />Apart from this, a trans-disciplinary one-year post graduate diploma programme in public health is also being jointly developed by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi University (DU), Jamia Millia University (JMU) and Indian Institute of Technology(IIT)-Delhi, for those who wish to specialize on the subject, “which is in high demand in many foreign countries”.<br /><br />Under this programme, however, the students will not have flexibility to design their course. “At the conclusion of the course, all the four institutions including IIT-Delhi, will provide separate certificates to students for the subjects they taught and took exams,” the Ministry official added.</p>
