'Economic storm is coming': Rahul Gandhi warns of massive financial shock to common people after second fuel price hike

Economic structure created by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will collapse and the common people will bear the heaviest burden, says Congress leader.

Launching an attack on the Union government's economic policies after fuel prices were increased for the second time in five days, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said India is on the brink of an unprecedented "economic storm".

He claimed that the economic structure created by Prime Minister Narendra Modi would collapse and the common people would bear the heaviest burden.

He told reporters in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli that the government had erected the economic structure in favour of billionaire industrialists and it was destined the collapse.

"For several days now, I have been saying that the economic structure Modi ji has altered, an economic storm is coming now. The structure he has erected in favour of Adani and Ambani will not endure; it is destined to collapse completely," he told reporters.

He said that while key industrialists and political leaders would remain insulated from the impact, the common people — youth, farmers and labourers — would suffer from the economic shock.

"The tragedy is that the common people will bear the brunt. They will continue to sit in their palaces, but the youth of UP and the people of UP will be the ones to suffer the full impact of this shock. The economic shock that is coming will not affect Adani, Ambani and Modi. Instead, it will affect youth, farmers, labourers, and small business owners of Uttar Pradesh," he said.

He criticised the Modi government for allegedly failing to take corrective steps. The impact is "poised to strike with a severity perhaps unseen in many years; a very difficult period lies ahead. Instead of taking concrete action, Narendra Modi is telling the nation not to go on foreign trips, but he is roaming around the globe," he said.
