<p>The Centre on Tuesday waded into another controversy by appointing brand ambassadors for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Digital India programme.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Amid flip-flops on the appointment of Digital India brand ambassadors, the Ministry of Telecom and Communication clarified that it had appointed four people for a year during the Digital India week on July 1-7.<br /><br />On Monday, self-proclaimed “ethical hacker” Ankit Fadia said he had been appointed brand ambassador of Digital India on July 1. He also posted a picture of the certificate on Facebook, prompting social media to go into an overdrive. <br /><br />However, the government on Tuesday morning denied appointing anybody as Digital India brand ambassador.<br /><br />In the evening, though, the government issued a fresh statement saying it had nominated four people as brand ambassadors for a period of one year including Fadia, to propagate the products and applications being launched by the ministry under the Digital India programme.<br /><br />The other brand ambassadors are all-India IIT-JEE - Advanced 2015 topper Satwat Jagwani, IIT-JEE - Advanced 2015 topper among girls Krati Tiwari, and computer scientist and “6th Sense” author Pranav Mistry. “Thereafter, no other person has been appointed brand ambassador for Digital India,” said the statement.<br /><br />It further added that services of these brand ambassadors would be used as and when required to generate mass awareness for the programme.<br /></p>
