High-tech crime: BMW driver flips number plate in seconds during drunk-driving check

A drunk doctor who was intercepted by police flipped his BMW's number plate within seconds at the click of a button in Hyderabad's upscale Jubilee Hills.

A drunk doctor intercepted by Hyderabad police flipped his BMW's number plate within seconds at the click of a button. And no, this is not a scene out of an action-thriller movie scene but a real-life incident.

On a late night of April 10, Dr Gautham Reddy was stopped in Hyderabad's affluent Jubilee Hills during a routine drunk driving check.

According to a NDTV report, Reddy blew 137 mg/100 ml on the breathanalyser which is much higher than 30 mg limit.

When the doctor was questioned further, he allegedly took out a remote and flipped his number plate. What was even more shocking was the fact that while one number plate was registered in Telangana 'TS9FQ9999', the other one had a Delhi registration - 'DL6CM7097'.

The report further mentioned that the Telangana plate TS9FQ9999 was traced to another car at Reddy's home while the Delhi number plate was being used to dodge off e-challans and trick cameras. The deliberate act was performed to deceive the law enforcement system.

"Avoiding fake number plates isn't new, but this kind of advanced setup is rare. It appears to be a calculated attempt to dodge penalties and mislead digital surveillance," N Ravinder, inspector (traffic), Jubilee Hills Police Station, told NDTV.

The shocking act highlights the heights one can go to in order to deceive the legal systems.

While Reddy has refrained from sharing further details with the cops, his luxury car has been seized by the police.

Reportedly, Reddy is currently in police custody and is facing charges for drunk driving under Motor Vehicles Act.
