<p>G Kasturi, former editor of “The Hindu” and former managing director of “Kasturi & Sons Limited,” died at his residence in Chennai at 2 am on Friday, after suffering congestive heart failure. <br /><br />He was 87. Kasturi, who was the editor of the “The Hindu” from September, 1965 to January, 1991. <br /><br />He is survived by wife Kamala, two sons and a daughter.</p>.<p>Described as a “visionary and moderniser,” Kasturi introduced full page facsimile transmission system for printing for the first time in India in 1969. He also introduced computer-aided photocomposing in “The Hindu” in 1980, the first mainline Indian newspaper to do so.<br /><br />Kasturi had also headed the “Press Trust of India” and the”‘Indian Newspaper Society.” </p>
