How to surrender your LPG connection if you have PNG supply: All you need to know amid govt push for piped gas

Amid an ongoing LPG supply crunch triggered by the West Asia conflict, the Centre is encouraging households to shift to piped natural gas (PNG) connections.

In line with this push, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) has issued guidelines enabling consumers to surrender their LPG connections from home, without visiting a distributor.

MoPNG has launched an online platform, MyPNG-D, which allows users who have already switched to PNG to give up their LPG connections conveniently. The process can be completed using a registered mobile number or LPG ID.

How to surrender an LPG connection:

1. Visit: https://mypngd.in/

2. Enter your registered mobile number or LPG ID

3. Submit the surrender request

4. The LPG distributor will get in touch to complete paperwork, collect the cylinder, and process the refund.

MoPNG Secretary Neeraj Mittal, in a post on X , said that nearly 1,797 consumers surrendered their LPG connections within a day of the MyPNG-D portal being launched.

The initiative follows a directive issued by the Centre under the Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution (Through Laying, Building, Operation and Expansion of Pipelines and Other Facilities) Order, 2026. Under this, LPG supply may be discontinued after three months for households that neither respond to outreach from authorised agencies nor apply for a PNG connection.

City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies have been assigned the responsibility of contacting consumers through calls, SMS alerts and recorded messages to ensure they are informed and comply with the transition process.
