<p>Six days after popular Tamil serial actor K <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/tamil-tv-actress-v-j-chitra-dies-by-suspected-suicide-925274.html" target="_blank">Chitra was found dead in a hotel room</a>, the Chennai Police on Monday night arrested her husband R Hemnath for abetting her suicide.</p>.<p>The Chennai Police recorded Hemnath’s arrest at around 11 pm on Monday at the end of the questioning which continued at regular intervals since December 9, the day Chitra died of suicide.</p>.<p>“Chitra’s husband has been arrested for her suicide. He has been booked under Section 306 of IPC that deals with abetment of suicide,” a senior police officer told <em>DH</em>. After his arrest, Hemnath was sent to judicial custody by a local court on Tuesday.</p>.<p>Police said Chitra (29) and Hemnath had registered their marriage a few months ago and had planned to hold a formal ceremony in January. “They seem to have had differences over a lot of issues and it is believed that the couple had an argument before they checked-in to the hotel where Chitra was found dead,” the officer added.</p>.<p>A separate probe by the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) is also underway.</p>.<p>Chitra’s mother had also blamed Hemnath for her daughter’s suicide. The police also said it has been established, after going through call records, that the actor last spoke to her mother before taking the extreme step.</p>.<p>Chitra was a popular face on television, acting in serials and hosting shows. She shot into limelight after her role in Saravanan Meenatchi, a popular television serial and went on to become popular. She was acting in Pandian Stores, another popular television soap broadcast on an entertainment channel.</p>.<p>Chitra was found dead inside her hotel room in Nazarathpet near Poonamallee on the outskirts of Chennai in the early hours of December 9. Hemnath had told police that he was waiting outside the room as Chitra locked herself inside the room to take a shower. The couple had checked-in to the hotel after Chitra completed her shooting for a serial.</p>
