<div>One in every six Indian households has a graduate while one in every two has at least a matriculate, according to a latest census.<br /><br />On both counts, India has better numbers in 2011 in comparison to those of 2001. As per 2011 figures, around 12.29 crore million households have at least one matriculate or above. This accounted for 49.5 per cent of the 24.83 crore households in the country.<br /><br />It is an impressive growth when compared to the 2001 figures when only 39.4 per cent households had a matriculate. According to the census, while 10.47 crore households (42.2 per cent) have male matriculates, 7.52 crore (30.3 per cent) have female matriculates.<br /><br />When it comes to households with graduates or those with higher qualifications, there is a similar increase. <br /><br />The number of households with at least one graduate and above is 4.14 crore (16.7 per cent of total households) in 2011 as against 2.36 crore (12.2 per cent) in 2001.<br /><br />Households with men having completed graduation are also more. Around 3.32 crore (13.4 per cent) households have at least one male graduate while 2.19 crore (8.8 per cent) households have at least one female graduate.<br /><br />A close look at the figures shows Kerala in a positive light when it comes to women’s education. It is the only state in the country which has more households with women matriculates and graduates.<br /><br />About households with graduates or above, Kerala has 17.67 lakh of them. Of these, 12.51 lakh have female graduates and 9.81 lakh males. The case is similar for matriculates also. While Kerala has 42.88 lakh households that have least one male matriculate, 47.65 lakh households have at least one woman with similar qualification.<br /><br />In states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Rajasthan, however, the difference in number of households with male graduates and female graduates is huge. For example, while Bihar has 11.87 lakh households with male graduates , the number of households with female graduates is just 3.16 lakh.<br /><br />Karnataka scenario<br />In Karnataka, there are 79.94 lakh households with members who have done matriculation or above. Of these, 65.79 lakh households have at least one male matriculate and 51.54 lakh households have at least one female matriculate. Among the 25.44 lakh households where one can find a graduate, 20.18 lakh have male and 13.36 lakh have female graduates.<br /></div>
