India Political Highlights: Vote for AAP to end BJP's failure, misrule in MCD, says Manish Sisodia

People should vote for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to end BJP's “failure and misrule” in Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia said on Thursday.

Sisodia, who held street corner meetings at nine wards of Aadarsh Nagar, Wazirpur and Model Town on Thursday, said that AAP's vision is to make Delhi the most beautiful capital of the world in the next five years by coming to power in the MCD. (PTI)

. Union minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday took a dig at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, saying he wanted to make Delhi like London and Singapore but even those cities did not provide "massage facilities" in their jails.

Thakur was referring to a purported leaked video that showed Delhi minister Satyendar Jain getting a massage in his Tihar Jail cell. Videos that purportedly showed Jain taking a massage also showed a TV inside his prison cell, and showed the minister taking visitors in his cell. (PTI)

. The Congress is trying to revive the organisational strength it once had and that is why it now has a new president in Mallikarjun Kharge who has been working at grassroots level, senior party leader Manish Tewari said on Thursday.

He said it is the strength of the organisation that helps candidates win elections, noting that he won the last Lok Sabha election due to the party workers, even when no prominent leader campaigned for him. (PTI)

. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said “vanvasi” (forest dweller) was a "derogatory" term to refer to adivasis and asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to apologize to tribals for using the word to describe them.

Gandhi, leading his party's Bharat Jodo Yatra, alleged the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideology had helped the Britishers who hanged tribal revolutionaries like Tantya Bheel. (PTI)

. The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Thursday alleged that police personnel in Mainpuri parliamentary constituency are working in favour of the BJP for the upcoming by-poll.

It also met Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla, demanding the removal of these police personnel to ensure fair elections. (PTI)

. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday alleged that villages in Gujarat remained neglected as the previous Congress governments did not follow Mahatma Gandhi's values.

"Mahatma Gandhi used to say that the soul of India resides in its villages. But Congress leaders never cared to follow such Gandhian values. They actually crushed that soul. Villages remained neglected and their true potential was never realised," he said. The rift between villages and cities only widened under the Congress governments which even "enjoyed the conflict between the two", the prime minister said. (PTI)

. As Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot stepped up his attack on his bete noire Sachin Pilot, the Congress on Thursday said their differences would be resolved in a manner that strengthens the party and asserted that the focus right now should to on the success of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

"Ashok Gehlot is a senior and experienced political leader. Whatever differences he has expressed with his younger colleague Sachin Pilot will be resolved in a manner that strengthens the Congress party," AICC general secretary communications Jairam Ramesh said in a statement. (PTI)

. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Gujarat has transformed the education sector in the state and made it more scientific and modern, touching upon an election issue which is being aggressively pushed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Addressing a rally in Dehgam town of Gandhinagar district, his third of the day, ahead of the next month's Assembly polls, the PM pointed out that Gujarat's education budget has now gone up to Rs 33,000 crore, more than the total budget outlay of several states. (PTI)

The Congress in Kerala on Thursday termed the Left government's decision to hike sales tax on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and forgo the five per cent Turnover Tax (ToT) levied on distilleries as "corruption" and said it could lead to increase in drug use. The criticism comes a day after the state cabinet approved a four percent increase in the general sales tax on IMFL. (PTI)

. Senior BJP leader B L Santhosh and three others were named as accused by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the case of alleged conspiracy to poach four TRS MLAs, officials said on Thursday. Following directions from the Telangana High Court, the SIT, probing the case, also issued a second notice to BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) Santhosh, who is yet to appear before it. . Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday played down AAP's chances in the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections, saying that the fight for the state was between the BJP and the Congress.

Shah, further, expressed confidence that the BJP would only strengthen its hold on the western state, saying, "We will beat all records in terms of seat and vote percentage in Gujarat."

. Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, claimed on Wednesday that in the past 15 years, BJP has converted Delhi into a dumpyard.

The very first day foot-march began at 6 a.m. on Wednesday after taking over the yatra flag from Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole and concluded as per its scheduled time at 7:30 p.m.

While addressing a large gathering at Burhanpur, Gandhi on Wednesday said that the main purpose of the Congress's Bharat Jodo Yatra is to remove fear from the minds of farmers, labourers and youth.
