<p>Mumbai: The Indian team has delivered an outstanding performance at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2025 held at Sunshine Coast in Australia securing 3 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal.</p><p>India was positioned seventh among 110 countries, matching its best-ever rank achieved previously in 1998 and 2001.</p><p>This year’s IMO saw the participation of 630 students from across the world, including 69 female contestants. </p><p>Notably, this is only the second time that India has won three gold medals at the IMO — the first being in 1998. </p>.<p>The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), a national centre of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), serves as the nodal agency for Olympiad programmes in India.</p><p>Last year, India achieved a historic feat by winning four gold medals at IMO 2024. Since India’s debut at the Olympiad in 1989, the country has secured a total of 23 Gold Medals, of which 12 have been won between 2019 and 2025. Impressively, 9 of these golds came from the last three IMOs (2023, 2024, and 2025), highlighting India’s rising excellence in mathematics.</p><p>The three Gold medallists are Kanav Talwar and Aarav Gupta from Delhi and Adhitya Mangudy from Maharashtra. </p><p>The two Silver medallists are Abel George Mathew from Karnataka and Aadish Jain from Delhi while the Bronze medallist is Archit Manas from Delhi. </p><p>The team was accompanied by Prof. Shanta Laishram, Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi as the Team Leader, Dr. Mainak Ghosh, Indian Statistical Institute, Bengaluru, as the Deputy Leader, Atul Shatavart Nadig, a BS student at MIT, USA, as Observer A, and Dr. Rijul Saini as Observer B.</p><p>India also set a new national record in terms of team score, with a total of 193 out of a maximum 252 points, the highest-ever achieved by an Indian IMO team. Each student can score a maximum of 42 points, making the team total 252.</p><p>This is the third consecutive year that India has ranked among the top 10 at the IMO, with Rank 9 in 2023, Rank 4 in 2024, and Rank 7 in 2025. </p><p>Overall, India has featured in the Top 10 a total of seven times in its 35 appearances at the IMO excluding 2020, when India did not participate due to the Covid-19 pandemic.</p>
