A Delhi-based CEO shared a post humorously claiming that his intern, who lives just 500 meters away, is trying to save the economy by opting for work from home while the users defended the intern's choice.

In a satirical LinkedIn post, a Delhi-based CEO has quipped about an intern requesting work-from-home by citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's nation-wide appeal. This joke has sparked a broader debate over genuine fuel-saving efforts versus convenience-driven decisions.

Addressing a rally in Hyderabad on May 10, PM Narendra Modi appealed to citizens to return to work-from-home arrangements, online meetings, and video conferences, as commuting consumes a significant amount of fuel, which has surged due to the war. He called for restarting these 'Covid-era measures' in the national interest.

In the backdrop of the appeal, the CEO & Co-Founder of Idiotic Media shared a post humorously claiming that his intern, who lives just 500 meters away, is trying to save the economy by skipping the commute and opting for work from home.

In a sarcastic tone, the CEO quipped that while the country may be cutting carbon emissions, the intern was simply “cutting the effort of putting on pants."

The post underscored instances where PM Modi's appeal served as a convenient excuse rather than a genuine conservation effort. “If your commute is shorter than your favourite mash-up, you aren’t conserving fuel. You’re just conserving your laziness."

"Unless you're driving a tank to cover those 15 minutes, get your atmanirbhar self into the office," he further added.

Users advocate for work-from-home

The post gained reactions online, with users advocating for the intern's choice to opt for work-from-home despite his commute distance.

A user wrote, "I don't understand why it matters to you if he stays 500 meters away, or 50 kms. The office & the policies are the same for everyone I assume."

The second user emphasized that WFH isn’t only for emergencies and also highlighted the daily struggle of preparing for office. "At times, WFH should be a mandate to not only fight crisesbut also to fight such mental block/mentality. It is not only about “putting on pants” but a whole day goes behind planning your chores around physical office schedule. :)."

"If turnaround time and creativity is hampered, I believe a one-to-one discussion would be more helpful rather than a careless public post to garner a few engagements," the user suggested.

Third user quipped, "Wearing pants requires washing them. If that is avoided, the intern is saving so much time which can be productively used for work. Why don't you see that?"
