PoK intruder held in Uri as security forces foil separate cross-LoC movement attempts

Srinagar: The Army on Sunday said it apprehended a Pakistani national in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after he was intercepted while attempting to cross the Line of Control (LoC).

Some unverified social media posts made claims about the identity and possible personal motive of the intruder, including suggestions of a personal relationship across the Line of Control.

They said the man from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) is suspected to have crossed the LoC in the Uri sector with the alleged intention of meeting his girlfriend after the two came into contact through social media.

Officials added that the matter is under verification and no formal conclusion has been drawn regarding the motive.

In a post on X, the Chinar Corps of the Army said alert troops detected movement along the LoC in the Uri sector and intercepted the individual before taking him into custody without causing harm.

“A POJK intruder has been apprehended, who was intercepted by alert Chinar Warriors while crossing the Line of Control in Uri Sector. The vigilant troops maintained restraint while challenging the intruder and surgically apprehended the individual. Intruder handed over to JKP for further legal proceedings,” the Army said.

In a separate operation in the same sector, security forces also foiled an alleged exfiltration attempt and apprehended three individuals, including two residents of Sopore.

Officials said a joint operation by the Army and police was launched in the Uri following specific intelligence inputs, leading to the detention of the suspects along with an alleged guide.

Security agencies are questioning all detainees to determine whether the attempted movement was part of a broader cross-Line of Control network and whether any local facilitation was involved. Further investigation is underway.
