Schools, colleges in border districts of Jammu and Kashmir to remain closed on Wednesday

Jammu: All educational institutions in five border districts of the Jammu will remain closed on Wednesday in the wake of prevailing situation in the region, officials said.

Similar instructions have been issued for border districts of Kashmir.

In retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian armed forces early Wednesday carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba''s base in Muridke.

"In view of the prevailing situation, all schools, colleges and educational institutions in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch will remain closed today," Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said on X.

The Kashmir University has postponed all its examinations scheduled for the day. Fresh date for the conduct of postponed papers shall be notified separately, a University spokesman said.

Cluster University also postponed all examinations scheduled for the day.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, on Wednesday ordered that all educational institutions in Baramulla, and Kupwara districts as well as in Gurez of Bandipora district will remain closed on Wednesday.

"Considering the present situation, educational institutions, schools, colleges in Baramulla, Kupwara and Gurez will remain closed for today," Bidhuri said.

Authorities have urged the public to remain alert and stay calm, and follow official advisories as a precautionary measure.

Some schools around the Srinagar airport here have also been closed as a precautionary measure, the officials said.

According to defence sources, three civilians were killed in indiscriminate firing and shelling by the Pakistan military across the Line of Control and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir last night.

The military strikes were carried out under ''Operation Sindoor'', two weeks after the massacre of 26 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.
