He would retire on November 10, 2024. </p>.<p>Several VVIPs, including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju and sitting SC judges as well as former CJI U U Lalit were present on the occasion.</p>.<p>As Justice Chandrachud took over as the head of the judiciary, history was created since this is the first time when the father-son duo have reached the position of the CJI.</p>.<p>His father, Justice Y V Chandrachud was the 16th CJI. He was appointed as CJI on February 22, 1978 and held the office to the day he retired on July 11, 1985. He was the longest serving CJI.</p>
