Minor Irrigation Minister C S Puttaraju said that 10 minor irrigation projects will be implemented in Dakshina Kannada district, at a cost of Rs 568 crore.

He spoke to reporters after a spot inspection of the barrage-cum-bridge work at Harekala, across Nethravathi river (cost Rs 174 crore), on Friday.

The minister said that irrigation projects totally estimated at Rs 1,658 crore, were announced by former chief minister Siddaramaiah in his budget, and the Paschimavahini project was approved.

At Harekala, a dam would be constructed near Adyar-Kannur, on the right bank of the river. The dam would also serve as a bridge linking Adyar to Kannur. Currently, locals use boats to cross the river. The journey is 30 km by road. The cabinet had approved the project, and the tenders would called soon. The project is expected to take two years for completion.

Putraraju added that he had requested Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade to support his department, by funding 93 lake development projects, under Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP).
