<p>The process of providing ‘Suvarna Aarogya Chaithanya’ health cards to first standard students in the State under Sarva Shikshana Abhiyaana (SSA) has been commenced. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The government had called tender on July 27 for the purpose. This year 31,300 students in Dakshina Kannada will be getting health cards, which would provide health security for them till they complete tenth standard. <br /><br />According to the education department sources, among 31,300 students in the district, 11,390 students are from government schools, 5,551 students are from aided schools, 14,225 students are from unaided schools, 83 students from social welfare department schools and 181 students are those who study central syllabus. <br /><br />About the benefits of the health card, Sarva Shikshana Abhiyaana Project Co-ordinator Shivprakash said that the card is used to maintain the health details of a student like height and weight every year, till he completes high school. Moreover, students can get free treatment (including surgery) using the card in any hospital. The card is accepted also in private multi-speciality hospitals, which would definitely help the poor, he told Deccan Herald. <br /><br />When asked about the doctors’ visit to schools before distributing cards, a Health Department official said: “This year the government has allotted two doctors and two nurses for every taluk. According to the chart prepared by the Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI), the doctors have started visiting the schools from August. The process would end by September.” Doctors will be visiting the school in the middle of the academic year if a child suffers from sickness. <br /><br />Govt yet to release fund<br /><br />About school valuation, Shivprakash said that in 2012-13, the SSA had conducted the valuation of school activities, in association with the NGO. All information has been uploaded and the government is yet to send a report on that. “We are waiting for the report from government’s side. However, we are going to start the process. If we complete one round in August, we can start another round of survey in September,” he said. <br /><br />Speaking on ‘Chinnara Krishi Darshana’ programme which is not started yet, Shivprakash said that the State government has not released funds, hinting a delay. <br />“The government would release the funds for special programmes by the end of August.<br /><br /> Now SSA has got only maintenance fund and school grant. Anyhow, we are going to implement the programme without waiting,” he said. Meanwhile, he said that the school-level examinations under science and maths olympiad, a new project from this year will begin from August 31.</p>
