<p>Five women were killed and eight sustained injuries after a multi-utility vehicle they were travelling by overturned at Lakshmipura in HD Kote taluk on Wednesday. All the victims were on their way to take part in a betrothal ceremony.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The deceased have been identified as Sujatha (47), Gowramma (60), Prema (35), Kanyakumari (47) and Gowramma (65). <br /><br />While the first three died on the spot, Kanyakumari breathed her last at HD Kote government hospital. Gowramma died on the way to hospital in Mysore. <br /><br />All the injured were shifted to KR Hospital in Mysore for treatment. All the deceased were related to each other.<br /><br />According to the police, the victims were travelling from Antarasante village to Handpost by the MUV. <br /><br />The accident occurred as the driver of the vehicle lost control in his attempt to overtake a car. <br /><br />The speeding MUV overturned and came to a halt after hitting a tree. The movement of vehicles on the road was affected for a while due to the accident. The bodies were handed over to the relatives after the postmortem. <br /><br />A case has been registered against the driver of the MUV.<br /><br /></p>
