<p>Fulfilling a long-pending demand of those aspiring to get into the police department, the state government is likely to relax the age limit for recruitment of sub-inspectors. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The Home Department made the recommendation on relaxing the age limit for sub-inspectors in civil, wireless and intelligence wings a few months ago. <br /><br />The proposal excludes the armed wings of the police. At a recent meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary V Umesh, the proposal was approved. Now, a bill will be drafted and sent to the Law Department seeking its opinion. Then, objections will be sought from the public before the final bill is prepared. Thereafter, a formal announcement will be made. <br />In most states, the age limit for sub-inspectors is 28 years for general category candidates and 30 years for SC/ST candidates. In Karnataka, however, it is 26 and 28 years, respectively. <br /><br />Age limit <br />“A large number of men fail to make it to the police department because of the low age limit as recruitment is not done regularly,” ADGP (Administration) Praveen Sood told Deccan Herald. <br /><br />Meanwhile, the government has asked Raghavendra Auradkar, ADGP (Training and Recruitment), for a report on the police recruitment scenario and why a large of recruits quit over the last few years. <br /><br />The report is expected in a week. Auradkar will also recommend increasing the sanctioned strength of police personnel to address the requirements of the next five years. <br /><br />Both the proposals – age limit relaxation and increase in sanctioned strength – are likely to be announced when Auradkar submits the report, said a police source. <br /><br /> </p>
