Arrested for murder, BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj referred to Jayadeva for heart checkup

Bengaluru: A Bengaluru court on Friday directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide medical treatment to BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj, who is in custody in connection with the murder of history-sheeter Biklu Shiva. 

The court ordered that Basavaraj be shifted to the government-run Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research for a detailed cardiac evaluation after he complained of heart-related issues. Earlier in the day, he was examined at the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, where doctors indicated possible cardiac concerns and recommended further tests at a specialised heart hospital. 

Following the medical opinion, the court directed the investigating officials to ensure that Basavaraj undergoes a comprehensive examination under the supervision of senior doctors at Jayadeva Hospital.

As he remains in CID custody, the medical tests will be conducted under official supervision. 

The court also instructed the CID to produce him before the judge on Saturday along with the medical reports. Based on the reports, the court will decide whether to remand him in judicial custody or grant further CID custody for interrogation.
