5 Nepalese arrested for burgling valuables worth Rs 50 lakh

Bengaluru: The city police on Tuesday announced the arrest of five Nepalese for allegedly breaking into a house in south Bengaluru’s Thalaghattapura and stealing valuables worth Rs 50 lakh.

The suspects have been identified as Lal Bahadur Bohar, Netra Chalouni, Kamal Chalouni, Kiran Bohar, and Rakesh Saha.

On March 23, the group allegedly disabled CCTV cameras installed at a house in Gubbalala near Thalaghattapura before breaking in. They made away with 502 grams of gold, 4.5 kg of silver, and two mobile phones.

The police arrested one of the suspects within 48 hours based on leads from CCTV footage. Further investigation led to the arrest of the remaining suspects, who were found staying at a lodge on Kanakapura Main Road.

The police said one of the suspects had closely monitored the residents’ movements and, after confirming that the house was unoccupied, planned the burglary with his accomplices.

Separate theft case

In a separate incident, the SJ Park police arrested two men wanted in more than 10 theft cases and recovered valuables and vehicles worth Rs 34.27 lakh.

The suspects were identified as Ullas alias Daali, 24, and Kiran, 23.

Ullas has 31 cases against him, while Kiran is involved in nine cases. Their arrest came after they allegedly broke into a hardware shop on Silver Jubilee Park Road and stole Rs 6,000 from the counter.

A police informant spotted them while they were fleeing and alerted the authorities, leading to their arrest. The duo has cases registered against them in Byadarahalli, Nandini Layout, Ramamurthy Nagar, Madanayakanahalli, Tumakuru, and Kolar police stations.

Word of caution 

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayananda urged citizens leaving the city for summer vacations — or even leaving home for more than two days — to inform their jurisdictional police stations so such houses can be prioritised during night patrolling.
