<p>Bengaluru: A delegation from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) inspected two locations along Kanakapura Road in south Bengaluru on Tuesday, which have been shortlisted for building the second international airport in the city.</p>.<p>Both locations — mostly agricultural and barren land — are adjacent to each other.</p>.<p>The team is expected to visit the third location, situated along the Nelamangala-Kunigal Road, on Wednesday.</p>.<p>The inspection, part of the pre-feasibility survey, was undertaken in the villages of K Chudahalli, Karenahalli, Veerasandra and Sadanapalya among others. </p>.<p>These villages are located about 10 km beyond NICE Road and are adjacent to NH 948.</p>.<p>The team climbed two hilly areas — one on foot and the other by car — to get a bird’s eye view of the location and assess the topography.</p>.<p>The AAI team was led by Vikram Singh, general manager (operations). It was accompanied by deputy commissioner of Ramanagara district Yeshwanth V Gurukar and special deputy commissioner of Karnataka Industries Area Development Board (KIADB) Dayanand Bhandari.</p>.<p>During the inspection, AAI officials inquired about the presence of water and gas lines, as well as air polluting industries in the vicinity.</p>.Bengaluru adds 7.22L new vehicles, total hits 1.23 cr.<p><strong>Topography</strong></p>.<p>They also studied the high-rise buildings in the vicinity and the proposed pathways to the airport. There were concerns about the topography of the area, particularly the hilly terrain.</p>.<p>In response, state officials assured the team that these were just hillocks that could be easily levelled and that there were no rocks.</p>.<p>They also proposed merging parts of the two shortlisted locations in south Bengaluru to avoid the hilly terrain that could potentially pose challenges.</p>.<p>The officials promised that the area had over 5,000 acres of undeveloped land, a large portion of which belonged to the government.</p>.<p><strong>Minister briefed</strong></p>.<p>Later in the day, the AAI team called on Industries and Infrastructure Development Minister M B Patil for a debriefing and courtesy meeting.</p>.<p>“Once the team completes the study, we will undertake a feasibility study and prepare a detailed project report. We will consult experts who have built large airports in different cities across India. The proposal will be discussed in the Cabinet meeting,” the minister told reporters.</p>.<p>“Bidadi and Harohalli are not being considered for the second airport,” Patil clarified.</p>.<p><strong>Township at Bidadi</strong> </p>.<p>“We have shown locations along Kanakapura Road. Another location is near Nelamangala, which is within the 50-km radius of Vidhana Soudha. In Bidadi, deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar is planning to build a township,” he said.</p>
