<p>British Deputy High Commissioner Dominique McAllister on Friday announced the opening of the window for Chevening scholarship and fellowship programmes.<br /><br />Noting that the number of Indians applying for British education visas is increasing steadily, he said the UK government welcomes more candidates to apply from India.<br /><br />“The UK in India hosts the largest Chevening country programme in the world, with a £2.6 million budget to fund about 120 fully-funded scholarships for future Indian leaders,” he said<br /><br />Of the 120, there are 60 scholarships and 60 fellowships. “Indian nationals who want to study masters or conduct research in the UK should apply in the programme. India has a strong Chevening alumni of 2,500 and we want it to grow further,” he said.<br /><br />The Chevening scholarship covers education fee, travel and living costs (one year) of students who want to study masters degree in the UK.<br /><br />The 60 fully-funded fellowships cover a wide ranging areas, including science, arts and media.<br /><br />Last year, there were 50,000 applications from worldwide out of which 5,000 were interviewed. Out of them, 1,765 scholars were chosen from 141 countries.<br /><br />Applications for 2018-19 are now open. The last date for application is November 7.<br /><br /></p>
